Long before algorithms dominated trading, Todd B. Richter proved that human insight still moves markets. His 1979 William and Mary degree supplied macroeconomic context; his 1981 Kelley MBA delivered the micro—DCF models, comps, and precedent transactions—right as healthcare entered its golden age of specialization.
At Morgan Stanley for 18 years, Richter’s healthcare equity desk became required reading. He quantified the ROI of robotic surgery adoption while peers debated its hype, securing 17 “All-American Analyst” medals and Wall Street Journal “All-Star” laurels. His buy/sell discipline preserved capital through Y2K jitters and post-9/11 volatility.
Since 1999, as Managing Director of Bank of America’s Global Healthcare Investment Banking Group, Richter applies the same forensic lens to live deals—stress-testing covenants, modeling synergy capture, and stress-testing management teams. Mentorship is baked in; junior analysts leave his wing fluent in both Excel and empathy.
Richter institutionalizes this craft via the $5 million Todd Richter Fund at Kelley. One-quarter seeds securities analysis professorships, importing Nobel-caliber minds; another quarter funds graduate fellowships for first-gen scholars; the remainder upgrades departmental labs and Dean’s innovation slush fund. The result: a conveyor belt of analysts who can read a 10-K like poetry.
His Bideawee Todd B. Richter Foster Program mirrors this rigor—every foster placement tracked with adoption KPIs, every dollar audited for impact. Regular visits to both alma maters keep his curriculum current, whether debating ESG in pharma or foster-to-adopt conversion rates.
Todd B. Richter ensures securities analysis remains equal parts science and service.
